SCR Denitration | How to deal with coke plant exhaust gas

In the production process of the coking plant, the waste gas containing various pollutants will be produced. It mainly contains coal dust, coke dust and tar substances, such as inorganic hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, carbon dioxide, etc., as well as organic benzene, phenols and other polycyclic and heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. In particular, VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are concentrated in the recovery area, including ammonia sulfur, crude benzene, blast condensation, washing, fine desulfurization, storage stations, oil depots and other sections.

Most of these pollutants, whether inorganic or organic, are toxic to humans. For example, benzene compounds will not only cause certain damage to the central nervous system of the human body, but also may cause neurological disorders, and will harm the blood and hematopoietic organs after entering the human body, and even have bleeding symptoms or sepsis. Therefore, these waste gases must be treated effectively in coking plants to reduce their impact on the environment and human health.

In the production process, the coking plant will produce exhaust gas containing a variety of pollutants, of which the content of NOx (nitrogen oxides) is higher. Due to the low temperature of coke oven flue gas, it is not suitable for high temperature denitrification, so the current coke oven flue gas mainly uses low temperature denitrification technology. This technique is mainly based on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or organic catalysis.

The principle of SCR denitrification process is to use catalysts to convert NOx in flue gas into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. Compared with other denitrification methods, the quasi-low temperature catalyst SCR used in the coking plant has the following advantages: First, the denitrification efficiency is high, up to 90%, and the removal effect of NOx is very significant; Secondly, the technology has been quite mature, since the early 1980s began to gradually apply to coal boiler flue gas denitration, after decades of theoretical research and practical application, SCR technology has been recognized as the mainstream technology of flue gas denitration; In addition, in order to ensure the denitrification efficiency and catalyst activity, the system also adds a flue gas heating system, when the flue gas temperature is low, the flue gas temperature can be increased by burning blast furnace gas.

Therefore, enterprises need to control the emission of coking exhaust gas, reduce its pollution to the atmospheric environment and harm to the human body.
